Deadpool
I truly believe we have entered the era of Deadpool. To be fair people have proclaimed something along those lines before. Deadpool is popular, but nobody seems to know. Weird. He’s a vicious as Wolverine, as funny as Spider-Man and has as many gadgets as Iron Man. What more could you ask for.

So where does he fit into in the Marvel Universe? Well everywhere and nowhere. He’s a character initially tied to the X-Men via Cable. He is sent by his employer Tolliver to take out Cable. At the time Cable was in charge of X-Factor. I seem to recall Domino showing up during the battle also. So Cable has been a part of his history right on through the current issues of Cable and X-Force.

So earlier I mentioned Spider-Man and in the old days they RARELY showed Spider-Man and Deadpool together but in the last year they’ve done it a few times. I think they rarely showed them together because they didn’t want people to make the connection that Deadpool was a little bit of an internal Marvel rip-off. Because essentially it’s a Spider-Man costume simplified and of course Spider-Man is known for his humor and so that’s also what they gave Deadpool. Now over the years the character has evolved and they’ve given him all sorts of back story and even a name; Wade Wilson.

In Deadpool’s current incarnation he’s pretty much a Wolverine character because his origin story is that, like Wolverine, he came out of Canada’s Weapon X program. The story goes that Wade Wilson was a mercenary who had sort of loss hope after contracting cancer and went to Weapon X as a last hope. But WX was just experimenting with people/genes/abilities. So they had taken and Wolverine “healing factor” extract and put that into Wilson. But the AMPED it up to super duper, so this allows Deadpool to heal not only faster than Wolverine but from more severe things-like loosing his whole head. While still having almost Spider-Man level agility.
But in my opinion this is Deadpool’s year. Not only is he in the Wolverine Origins movie, he’s in the TV show Wolverine and the X-Men. AND he’s in about 4 comic books right now. Deadpool vs. Bullseye. Deadpool vs. Punisher, Deadpool vs. X-Force and Deadpool vs. The Thunderbolts. That’s quite a lot of pages per month for a “B character.” Not to mention he’s in a very exclusive club over at Marvel; good guys who kill people. I mean it’s pretty much ‘Pool, Wolverine and the Punisher. And those other 2 characters already have a cult following and their own movie. But NEXT time they put Deadpool in a movie the right guy to play the part would be Steve-O!
